 WP11 - Mobility

Researcher mobility is considered of prime importance in the e-Photon/ONe integration process. It will be implemented in the project through a continuous submission scheme. Proposals for the different types of short and long term mobility can be submitted at any time to the e-Photon/ONe Exchange and Mobility Board. This researcher mobility is envisaged through two types of people exchanges:

  • single visits of pre-doctoral or post-doctoral researchers to other partners, e.g. for a period of from 2 weeks up to a few months
  • long term, regular exchanges of senior researchers between partners

Mobility of senior researcher will be favoured at first, when the links between research groups will be created, then mobility of junior researcher and/or students (Graduate, PhDs) will be supported as well. The procedures that must be used for the selection and funding of both types of mobility are as follows.

  • An application will have to be submitted to the EM-B of the JPA Committee
  • Approval will be based on the quality of the application
  • Funding and payment mechanisms will depend on the type of exchange, but will rely upon involved partners' budgets

For the single visits, the applicant will have to specify purpose, time duration and place of visit as well as an estimation of the necessary funds. Funding will typically include travel expenses and a fixed amount per day. The outcomes of any mission/travel will be evaluated on the basis of a brief report that will be mandatory at the end of the mission. Parameters of evaluation will be joint publications, establishment of formal agreement between institutions (for instance exchange of students) etc. The outcomes of the evaluation will not impact the acceptance of the specific mission/travel, that was approved a priori, but will be considered in the evaluation of further requestes of the involved partners. The long term regular exchanges of senior researchers between partners are meant to last for several years and to continue preferably beyond the network duration. They are aimed at the co-promotorship of PhD students, but also could include regular teaching activities. Proposals for such exchanges will therefore be judged on the commitment taken by both partners involved in this scheme. Details given on PhD students subject to the co-promotorship, possible appointments as guest professor, etc. will be taken into consideration. For this type of exchange the funding will provide on a yearly basis and will be about 20 kEuro per year for a 10% exchange (i.e. senior researcher X from partner A spending 10% of his time, one day every 2 weeks, at partner B).
