e-Photon/ONe Joint Projects

The research activities will be organized inside e-Photon/ONe joint research projects (JPs), possibly with the participation of several VDs . Joint research Projects (JP), with dedicated budgets, will be organised by one or more NoE Virtual Departments. Some joint research projects internal to the NoE will be started in the 24 months of initial funding, as described in Section 9; additional JPs may be organised in the sequel.

Each Department/Project will elect a Department/Project Chairperson, who will prepare the annual programme to be submitted to the JPA Committee, and have the responsibility for its implementation. The Department/Project Chairperson jointly will be responsible for the implementation of the scientific objectives. They will submit timely reports of meetings and other developments to the Project Office, which will ensure their dissemination to all partners.

The participation to research projects external to e-Photon/ONe will be strongly encouraged and possibly supported with partial funding. The VDs will actively look for participation to externally funded research projects, such as national research projects and other EU instruments (IPs, STREPs, etc.).

The following JPs have been defined:

• JP1 - New designs for optical packet switching nodes
• JP2 - Dynamically reconfigurable optical access networks
• JP3 - Protocols for the Control Plane in WDM Networks
• JP4 - Robust transmission techniques for core and metro networks
