e-Photon/ONe Joint Projects
It is not the objective of the NoE to carry out specific research but to integrate activities among the members. However, research is one of the most important among these activities, and research is the prime activity for most of the involved personnel. Most of the members do already collaborate in different ways, both formal and informal, on specific research topics, and e-Photon/ONe has contributed significantly in this direction. This NoE aims at enhancing, and making more formal these collaborations, to the benefit of strengthening the role of Europein the implementation of the communication infrastructure of the future.
Among the diverse goals of VDs, we have the integration of existing research activities within the NoE. This means encouraging multi-partner research, starting from existing activities. In e-Photon/ONe, this started by an inventory of existing research in the different technical areas, and went through the identification of topics common to several partners, with the promotion of explicit coordination of these activities, via joint meetings, common contribution to VD technical deliverables, and editing of joint papers.
Joint Projects (JPs) have a similar goal of fostering integrated research, but take a rather different approach. The technical topic covered by a JP is narrow-focused, and is centrally decided by the NoE government bodies. JPs are matched one-to-one onto e-Photon/ONe+ WorkPackages (WPs), hence each JP will have a JP/WP leader responsible for its implementation. They have been conceived to carry out their activities over the 2-years time-frame
The following JPs have been defined:
